How Do I Cite Online Sources?

It is important to provide accurate citations for the resources you use in your papers. Correct documentation reduces the chance of plagiarism and it demonstrates the effort of your research process.

The following examples show how to cite articles retrieved from databases and materials pulled from the World Wide Web using various citation styles. OhioLINK has also created a Help and Hints page on citing sources.

Important Elements

  1. Author
  2. Title of article
  3. Title of magazine/journal
  4. Date of publication
  5. Volume number
  6. Pagination (if given)
  7. Vendor/supplier of database
  8. Database name
  9. Item or accession number of article (if given)
  10. Date you accessed the article
