How to Find a Book on the Shelf

You can find a book using the University of Dayton Online Catalog. You can search by author, title, subject, or word search.

The University of Dayton Online Catalog will indicate the location, call number, and status of a book. Here is an example:

Online Catalog Example

In the book display, "LOCATION" will tell you which library and what floor the book is on. Libraries include Roesch, Marian Library, Zimmerman Law Library, and the Curriculum Materials Center in Chaminade Hall.

"CALL NUMBER" indicates the Library of Congress call number for the book. The call number is an alphabetical and numerical representation of a book’s location on the shelf. If you can not find the book you are looking for, ask at the Circulation Desk.

"STATUS" indicates the status of the book. "CHECK SHELVES" indicates that the book should be available. "DUE" and a date indicates that a book is checked out. Ask at the Reference Desk if another status is displayed.

If you need assistance, ask at the Reference Desk

or call 229-4270 or use the E-mail reference service.
