Rare Book Collection

The Rare Book Collection is the library's oldest and most diverse special collection. It has no specific subject focus since its holdings have been gathered from books already owned by the library and from gifts. This non-circulating collection consists of manuscripts, early printed books, limited editions, autographed or association copies, books of famous presses, and books which are scarce in the United States. The collection is strong in Catholic theology, canon law, English and American literature, and rare encyclopedias. A letter written by Theodor Herzl is among its manuscripts.

The Rare Book Collection  may be consulted by appointment. Please contact by email Nicoletta Hary, Ph.D., Curator of Rare Books and Special Collections, or at 937-229-4262 (tel.) or 937-229-4590 (fax).
