The Brother Walter Klick, S.M., Library Award was established by Dr. Nicoletta M. Hary of the University Libraries with funds from the Lackner Award, which was presented to her in 1990 by the UD Marianists. It is administered by a standing committee of the University Libraries.

Only students who will be returning in the Fall are eligible to win this award. The award is in the form of bookstore credit, which is intended to assist students in the purchase of textbooks.

Who is eligible: Students with a major or minor in Teacher Education, both full and part-time, who are Sophomores or Juniors this year (i.e., those who will be Juniors or Seniors in Fall 2009), are eligible for this award.

Award Criteria: Criteria used in making the award include financial need, a good academic record, and personal characteristics which reflect the Marianist tradition.

To be considered for the award, please submit a completed application form by March 2, 2009. The award will be made for Fall semester 2009. Applicants should be aware that receiving this award could affect other financial aid.

Brother Walter Klick, a native of Cleveland, entered the Marianist Novitiate after graduating from Cathedral Latin High in 1930. He took his first vows on October 12, 1931. During his long teaching career he taught grade school, and high school students in San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Dayton, Puerto Rico, and Cincinnati. In 1954 he earned his M.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He directed UD's Wohlleben Library until its closing in 1970.
