Government Documents Computing Policies

Acceptable Use: The Government Documents computer is to be used for accessing materials available from the stand-alone CD-ROM tower, University Libraries, OhioLINK, and the Internet for academic purposes or personal interest.

Primary uses include the following:

  • Searching any depository CD-ROMs
  • Searching the University of Dayton and/or OhioLINK online catalogs
  • Finding articles using electronic journal indexes
  • Using University of Dayton and/or OhioLINK full-text resources
  • Researching information on the Internet for academic purposes
  • Accessing Electronic Reserve materials

Secondary uses include the following:

  • Researching information on the Internet for non-academic purposes

 Unacceptable Use

Unacceptable uses include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Email
  • Chat groups
  • Word processing (computers on the 2nd floor are equipped for this)

In Addition:

1. Users must limit sessions to 30 minutes if others are waiting.

2. Library users accessing electronic government documents have priority on this terminal. You may be asked to give up your workstation to a patron needing to use electronic government documents.

3. Beverages are prohibited at this terminal.

4. Users may not change any Windows, DOS, or Netscape configurations or options.

5. Users may not move, disconnect, or reconfigure equipment.

6. Users are encouraged to download large files to disk rather than printing them.

7. Users may not download to hard drives or server drives. Download to floppy drives only.

8. Users must abide by the University of Dayton Policy on Computing Ethics. Copies can be found in the Student Handbook or at the Reference Desk.


FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH LIBRARY POLICIES COULD RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY AND/OR LEGAL ACTION.
