Policies for Library Visitors

Access to Library Facilities

Access to Roesch Library resources including print materials, computers, networks, and building facilities is a service primarily for University of Dayton faculty, staff, and students.

The library welcomes visitors whose needs reflect the educational, research and service mission of the university and whose access does not interfere with access by UD faculty staff, students or users of Government information products.

Roesch Library facilities are available for visitors doing research, attending programs, viewing exhibits, or using meeting rooms. Visitors using the facilities for purposes other than those generally associated with an academic library may be asked to leave.

Using Library Materials

Visitors may use library materials in the building in accordance with the above policies. Visitors from other OhioLINK institutions must present a valid identification card from their institution in order to borrow materials.

Members of the community who wish to borrow library materials for use outside of the building may purchase a borrowing card at the circulation desk for an annual fee of $50.00 (community borrower) or $25 (UD Alumni with valid ID). Community and alumni borrowers may borrow up to 20 items from the Roesch Library collection for a 21-day period.

A valid photo identification card must be presented when purchasing a borrowing card.

For more details about community borrowing, please call 229-4234.

Using Library Computers

Patrons not currently affiliated with the University of Dayton (those without a valid Novell login) are limited to 5 computers in the reference room. These computers are located on the south wall, across from the reference desk.

The computers have access to the University of Dayton and OhioLINK library catalogs, research databases, government documents and other resources available from the library website. All government websites are accessible.

Visitors engaged in library research have priority on these computers. Email may be permitted if space allows and at the discretion of library staff.

Word processing, spreadsheets, and other productivity software programs are not available. Chat groups/rooms, games, and instant messaging are prohibited. Internet searching for purely entertainment or prurient purposes is prohibited.

Printing is available from the PC with the attached printer. Disks for downloading are available for sale at the Access Services Desk.

If all computers in the reference room are full, UD students, staff, and faculty will have priority on the 5 stations designated for use by non-affiliated patrons.
