General Library Policies
Use of Library Facility
The Library is committed to maintaining an atmosphere conducive to research and study. Behavior of groups or individuals which disrupts or obstructs the library-related work and activities of the University community is prohibited.
Unattended Minors
Generally children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. At the discretion of Library staff, middle school students (ages 12-14), who are using the library for school research, may be permitted to stay unattended if they are behaving in an appropriate manner. High school age students (14-17) may use the library for research purposes. Unattended children under the age of 14, middle and high school students not using the library for research purposes, and any person behaving in an unacceptable manner will be asked to leave the library.
Food and Drink
Recognizing that students spend many hours in the Library and
enjoy a cup of coffee, can of soda, or a small snack while studying,
the University Libraries provide vending machines on the 2nd floor.
Crumbs and spills attract bugs resulting in damaged collections; so
please clean up messes immediately and discard trash in
appropriate containers.
Drinks are allowed in closed containers such
as covered cups, cans, or water bottles.
Food is limited to snack items. No group
meals, fast food, or open plates of food are
allowed. The delivery of food to the Library
for library users is not allowed. No alcoholic
beverages are allowed. The consumption of
food and drink in the shelving areas, the
University Archives, and The Marian Library
is prohibited.
Smoking
Smoking and chewing tobacco are not permitted anywhere
in the library building.
Weather Related Closings and Delays
Closings
When classes are canceled and campus offices are closed for the whole day, the
University Library will try to be open between noon-8 PM. The severity of the
weather and the ability of library staff to safely travel the streets will
determine actual hours.
On days when the campus closes offices in the afternoon or cancels evening classes,
the library will try to remain open until 8:00 or 9:00 PM depending on the severity of the
weather.
The voicemail message at 229-4221 will be updated to indicate the correct library hours. Email
messages will also be sent to the campus community indicating early closings or
other departures from normal operating hours.
Delays
When the University opens on a delayed basis, the Library will open at the same
time campus offices open and classes begin.
Bulletin Boards
Posters and signs may be displayed on the bulletin board across from the restrooms on the 1st floor. All materials must have an Office of Student
Activities stamp.
Other bulletin boards in the library are dedicated to library materials.
