Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Policies
Procedures
Eligible patrons should complete an interlibrary loan form for each item
to be requested and submit the request(s) at the circulation desk, or
electronically. Interlibrary loan cannot accept requests by telephone. The patron should
provide complete bibliographic information for journal articles. It is helpful, but
not necessary, if the patron list the source of the citation or attach a copy of a
citation printout.
Request forms with incomplete patron and bibliographic information will
not be filled. A request form must be completed for each item submitted including
multiple articles from the same journal volume. Patrons who do not have sufficient
information should consult a reference librarian for assistance before submitting their
request(s) to interlibrary loan.
Rush requests will be accepted only in extreme cases. Rush requests will
be handled by faxing an ALA form to a holding library and requesting "rush"
service. There is, however, no guarantee that the holding library will be able to comply.
Patrons who require faster service than the ILL office can supply should be referred to
commercial document suppliers, such as Ingenta.
How Long Will it Take?
Patrons should allow a minimum of two weeks for the receipt of
materials. Materials to be returned must be returned by the due date indicated. If
the patron wishes to renew the material, a request should be made to the interlibrary loan
department at least three days before the due date. If the renewal is not granted by
the lending library, the material must be returned promptly.
Reminder
Interlibrary loan does not procure materials already available in the
Roesch Library, the Zimmerman Law Library, or resources that can be obtained through the
OhioLINK patron initiated borrowing system.
