You are valuable...

Library student assistants help to maintain the quality resources and information services our client-centered library provides.  Edward D. Garten, Dean Emeritus of Libraries & Information Technologies, states "Over the years the UD Libraries literally have employed thousands of students.  We would not have been able to provide the broad range of information services we do without this important workforce.  Often, years after graduation, students report back to us, telling us that many of the skills they learned as student staff members were important in setting a solid foundation for their future careers.  Our student employees have always been the 'life blood' of this organization, we value them, and we seek to find ways to ensure that their time with us is enjoyable and productive."

Many job opportunities...

The Roesch & Marian Libraries employ both federal and university funded work study students to work 4 to 20 hours per week.  During summers, holidays, and other breaks, students may be able to work as many as 40 hours per week.  Temporary help is available during these times as well.

Work hours vary within each area of the library, and most areas offer the flexibility to work around class schedules.  The libraries employ about 75 students within 9 areas of operation. Visit the Roesch & Marian Libraries' student employment office (RL201A) or call us at 229-4228 to see if any student positions are currently available.

Areas of employment:

Office of the Dean Bibliographic Management
Building Services/Student Employment Circulation/Reserves
Current Periodicals Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan
Government Documents Marian Library
Materials Preparation University Archives

Career opportunities...

Many student assistants report that working at the library has improved their research and customer service skills, abilities prized by employers.

We appreciate you...

Each semester we recognize our student assistants through the Student Appreciation Program.  We celebrate with a meal, door prizes, and a chance to socialize with students, staff and faculty of the Roesch and Marian Libraries.  Student assistants are truly valued as an integral part of our vision to remain a client-centered academic library.
