1EAP(1) Planning for the Seventies-- Records of the planning effort initiated and coordinated by Father George Barrett, S.M., Vice-president for administration. Records were obtained from Fr. Barrett when he left the university in 1974 and from the provost's office in 1980. Includes reports of various task forces; minutes and other documents of the Planning Coordinating Committee; minutes of the Planning Council; memoranda to the president from the Planning Council; and material of implementation of recommendations. Because of declining enrollments and revenues in the 1970's, many of the recommendations were not implemented, 1970-73.

ECD Center for Ministry with Disabled People

ECE Office of Educational Services (OES)-- Copies of studies done by the Office of Educational Services. The studies deal with schools in Ohio, usually Catholic. For the titles of the studies see the box lists. O.E.S. is one of the four centers of activity and research which comprise the Center for Christian Renewal at UD. The O.E.S. provides assistance to schools , and school districts to enable personnel to reach policy decisions based on relevant knowledge and value commitments. Among its priorities is service to Catholic schools and networking for value concerns related to educational policy-making. The O.E.S. is located in, draws support from, and uses the resources of the School of Education at UD, 1976-80/ .

Some include the entire membership; others include only the Cincinnati Province or other North American provinces. Dates are from 1850- , although the earliest lists are photocopies. Also includes a list of Marianists who studied in Europe, through 1939. For a more complete collection, contact the S.M. provincial archives.

1M(2) McMahon Tapes-- Rev. Raymond McMahon, S.M., taped interviews with older Marianists about their experiences in community. Emphasis is on life as Marianists, but do contain information on University of Dayton (esp. Bro. T. Price). Original tapes are located in Marianist (Cincinnati Province) Archives. U.D. Archives has copies of tapes and this set of transcripts, 1950s.

The journal began publication in September, 1982; it is published bi-monthly (every two months) to promote articles in Theology, Religious Ethics and Philosophy, Cultural Anthropology, Spirituality, and Religious Psychology.

3A Horvath-- Two scrapbooks of articles about Bela Horvath, member of U.D. faculty and artist, refugee from Hungary. The materials were given by Mrs. Josephine Horvath after Mr. Horvath's death. Also, in 1981, the Archivist (Linda Keir Hinrichs) visited Mrs. Horvath in her home several times. There are four cassette tapes recording their conversations on these occasions.

3A Horwedel-- An alumnus (1924) and former UD faculty member (1962-79), Dr. Horwedel sent these materials to the University Archives. Included among these papers and memorabilia are copies of three patents granted to Mr. Horwedel; various certificates of recognition; programs, theses, and diplomas manifesting his academic background; and other items reflecting his career interests and recognition of his contributions.

3A Huth, E.-- This series contains publications by and about Edward A. Huth. Including 8 issues of The American Sociological Review (1946-1950), The Catholic Mind, Sep. 1945. Also included are letters and newspaper clippings relating to Fr. John LaFarge and misc. correspondence, articles and a draft of a speech entitled "Juvenile Delinquency in Wartime", given by Dr. Huth at the University of Dayton (1944c.). This series also contains two books signed by the authors to Dr. Huth; LaFarge, John. The Race Question and the Negro and Burton, Katherine. Chaminade, Apostle of Mary, founder of the Society of Mary. The third publication, The Mother the Heart of the Home, contains articles by Edward A. Huth.

3A Jehn-- Materials related to the 1986 ACM Computer Science Conference (February 4-6) and the ACM SIGCSE Symposium (February 6-7). Professor Lawrence A. Jehn, Head of the UD Computer Science Department, was ACM Computer Science Conference Chairman; his wife, Betty L. Jehn, served as Treasurer for the ACM Conference and Chairman for Local Arrangements for the ACM SIGCSE Symposium. Other UD Computer Science Department personnel were variously involved. Material include ACM Computer Science Program and Proceedings as well as ACM SIGCSE Bulletin, 18,1 (Feb. 1986).

3A King-- Tapes & transcripts of an oral history roject (1977) conducted by Edwin R. King, associate professor of history at the University of Dayton. Interviewees include Edith & Carol Beacham, Mabel Barnes, Earl Creager, members of the Hadeler family, William Huffman, Edward Koehnen, Robert and Henrietta Light, Robert S. Nevin, Fred Rieger, and Ethel Romspert. Copies also available at Oakwood Historical Society.

3A Lackner-- Material from and about Bro. Elmer Lackner. Include: memorial book form his funeral (signatures of visitors); photographs of him used in memorial exhibit and brochure; tags (from same exhibit) used with above-mentioned photographs and with those borrowed form the University Archives; booklet with Graduate Statistics, 1885-1950 with additional UD statistical information; articles about Bro. Lackner; a few pieces of correspondence; some miscellaneous Board of Trustees material; a copy of Who's Who in Dayton Kiwanis (includes page on Bro. Elmer); a Marianist Spiritual Alliance membership diploma--from Mr. and Mrs. Elmer F. Steger; seven "personal' slides and twelve slides marked "Rensel's after homecoming dinner" (1953,1954).

3A Jurick-Math Innovator, Donald L. Jurick-articles telling of Jurick’s career in UD’s math department, his development of a system to connect students to instructors and tutors through the Internet and articles about his sudden death by heart attack.

3A Morgan-- Three binder (Vol. I, III, and IV) with course notes, handouts, experiments and tests from professor Morgan's own student days at Purdue University (B.S.E.E., 1948). Presumable, he used or consulted these in his own class preparation. (Professor Morgan taught at UD form 1949 through 1979.) Master copy of professor Morgan's thesis, "Aluminum Ribbon Wound Transformers." Unbound thesis was in envelope marked "master copy". It has been bound. (M.S., University of Cincinnati, 1958). These items were among various materials received from the Electrical Engineering Department in 1985.

3A Panzer-- Personal papers of Bro. Joseph J. Panzer, S.M. Includes his papers written while a student at Fordham; publications; notes and writing on guidance; correspondence with publisher of Group Guidance in the Classroom; notes on the subjects of the Virgin Mary, grace, original sin, and the incarnation; notes and outlines for Education 419, 423, and 502; notes on Herbert Spencer, J.J. Rousseau, and John Cardinal Newman; notes, draft, and statement of philosophy on Marianist education; students' papers. Bro. Panzer's specialty was the Catholic philosophy of education. Although Bro. Panzer was Dean of the School of Education between 1966-72, these papers do not include office records of the School of Education. 3A Rappel-- "The Story of Ulrich J. Rappel, S.M. Scientist, Inventor, and Pioneer in Electrical Engineering at the University of Dayton."

3A Reichard-- Material which Lawrence E. Tagg (Music Division) received from Cecilia Reichard, widow of Dr. Maurice R. Richard, founder and longtime head of the Music Department at UD. Consists of various handwritten notes which Dr. Riechard assembled on the history of the Music Department at UD and a Two-page typed account of the history of the University of Dayton Band which he prepared in 1973. There is an envelope with "photos of early music at U.D." containing three photographs and the death card of Bro. Louis Vogt, S.M.

3A Ruppel(1)-- These papers were donated to the University Archives by Brother Ruppel in July of 1976. They cover his active participation in the American Association of University Professors(1970-75) and in the American Catholic Historical Association (1974-76)-- especially his chairmanship of Committee "A" for the AAUP and his chairmanship for the ACHA Bicentennial Meeting held at the University of Dayton (March 26-27, 1976).

3A Ruppel(2)-- Two folders contain materials related to Bro. Ruppel's participation in an EPDA Spanish Institute (1969): 1)his lecture notes, tests, evaluative materials and 2) correspondence related to this EPDA Institute and to International Education training and at UD. There is a one- page description of Bro. Ruppel's role in the development of International Education. (Date materials were received is unknown.)

3A Russ-- Materials pertaining to Rev. Gabriel Rus, S.M. Consists of : a plaque bestowed on Fr. Rus by the Dayton Council on World Affairs, to honor him for his role as initiator and counsellor for the First Annual World A'Fair, May 31, June 1,2, 1974-- this plaque was sent to the Archives by Marie Milord, International Student Advisor.
